Our social media following grew by 211,305 followers in 2016 and we regularly reach more than 2 million people per week with our social media posts. More than 17,000 people have visited our online crime reporting page. “Since the launch of our new website in February 2016 (up to 8 February 2017) more than 445,000 people have visited the site, with more than 1.5 million page views. In light of this, and with consideration to best and most cost effective use of police resources, the number of Station Enquiry Offices across Northern Ireland will reduce from 36 to 30 from 3 April, 2017, and new opening hours will be implemented in the majority of the remaining enquiry offices.Īssistant Chief Constable Alan Todd said: “People are choosing to contact us in a different way and we want to deliver what they want, in the way they have chosen while maintaining our frontline service. PSNI has invested in online applications for firearms licences and online vetting through Access NI. Of the 29 callers to the station, three were people signing bail and two were for prearranged meetings with police officers – sources of demand that police can manage. In this period 11 of the sources of demand were phone calls. In the second two week period there were 40 sources of demand recorded, equating to 0.6 visitors or callers per hour per day. In the first two week period of footfall analysis, 96 sources of demand were recorded which equates to 0.5 visitors per hour. The Local Policing Team is located in the newly-built Downpatrick station 14 miles away. The Neighbourhood Policing Team is based there. Current opening hours are 12 mid-day to 8pm, Monday to Friday. Advances in technology have made it possible for the Police Service of Northern Ireland to deliver new ways of reporting crime, filling out official forms and engaging with officers. Changes to the PSNI enquiry office service have resulted from the evolving digital footprint and Newcastle police station will be changing the way that people can access the PSNI for enquiries and other services.
